GEMS/YES PROGRAM!(Gains in the Education of Mathematics and Sciences/Young Engineers and Scientists Program (GEMS/YES))

http://www.detrick.army.mil/yes/index.cfm

Fort Detrick created the Young Engineers and Scientists program to prepare middle school students in the studies of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Each year, 250 students are selected through Fort Detrick to participate in a week long internship at Hood College. These lucky students work in a state of the art science laboratory in small groups of 4-6 while being mentored and led by a Near-Peer Mentor. Last year, several Monocacy MS students attended this program and LOVED IT!! Looks like they've added a robotics session...cool! Enrollment is open NOW!

STEM Camp at the Naval Academy!

(for current 7th and 8th graders)

Engineering is all about creating, building, and making things better! So what does it take to be an engineer? If you like math and science, you are off to a great start. If you enjoy discovering new things, solving problems, and learning how things work – even better! Creativity, persistence, and the desire to make the world a better place are also important qualities. Becoming an engineer requires hard work and a good education. This summer program will be a great start to your career in science and engineering.
